Dhaka: Eight idols in three Hindu temples in Bangladesh were vandalized earlier this week, PTI reported, citing local media. Miscreants wrecked temples in Mymensingh and Dinajpur over two days. The incident comes amid a diplomatic row between India and Bangladesh over increased atrocities on minorities in the country. Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri flagged regrettable incidents of attacks on minorities and conveyed India’s concerns, in a meeting with nation’s leadership in Dhaka.
Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haluaghat Police Station, said that miscreants ransacked two idols of Bonderpara Temple in the Shakuai union of Haluaghat. Khayer told the media that one person, identified as Azharul, was arrested for the vandalism in the Shakuair area. “The arrested person’s name is Azharul (37). We will produce him to the court today,” he told.

Early on Friday, two idols at the Bonderpara Temple in Shakuai union were damaged, though no case has been filed, and no arrests have been made so far, according to Abul Khayer, the officer-in-charge of Haluaghat Police Station.
Additionally, an idol at the Polashkanda Kali Temple in Beeldora union was vandalized on Thursday, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Alal Uddin from Polashkanda village.
