Washington: On Thursday night, a gunman opened fire outside a FedEx facility near Indianapolis airport. Eight people were killed in the mass shooting. Genae Cook, spokeswoman of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shared the information of the shooting.
Many people were injured in the incident and they were admitted to the hospital, one of whom was in critical condition.
Cook said that the police believe the gunman took his own life and there is “no active threat to the community at this time”. The police are investigating to find out the motive behind the shooting. It is unclear that what motivated the shooting. Around 11 pm, police arrived at the spot and entered the facility.
She further added, “The officers responded, they came in, they went in and they did their job”. Indianapolis police Deputy Chief Craig McCartt said, “The gunman came into the parking lot, and I believe he exited his vehicle and quickly began shooting… The first shooting occurred in the parking lot, and then he went inside and did not get very far”.
FedEx said that it was aware of the ‘tragic shooting’. Jim Masilak, a company spokesperson said, “Safety is our first priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected. We are working to gather more information and are cooperating with investigating authorities”.
