Olympian Vinesh Phogat is anticipated to attend a farmers’ protest at the Shambhu border on Saturday, August 31, as they continue their 200-day protest against the lack of a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP). According to the media, protests are also planned to take place at the borders of Khanauri, Shambhu, and Ratanpura.
Farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu border since February 13 in response to the authorities’ blockade of their march to Delhi. They are demanding a legal guarantee for the MSP for all crops, among other important demands.
According to the report, the farmers will honor Vinesh Phogat, a well-known athlete and activist for the farmers’ movement, during the day’s events.
Media reported that farmer leader Baldev Singh Bagga of Amritsar district said he hadn’t gotten any response to his attempts to contact the government. “Farmer organizations have written to both former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on multiple occasions, but they have not received a response. As Modi begins his eleventh year in office, the government continues to suppress farmers’ voices instead of responding to our demands,” Baldev Singh Bagga stated.
It further stated that Sarvan Singh Pandher, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha’s convenor, urged the farmers to come together in large numbers at the Shambu and Khanauri points on August 31.
