The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set the ball rolling on government formation nearly two and a half weeks after winning 48 seats in the Delhi Assembly election.

The new Delhi Chief Minister is set to take oath at the iconic Ramlila Maidan on February 20, said sources, adding that the BJP is planning to host a grand ceremony to celebrate their historic victory after 27 years in the national capital.

Several prominent city leaders, including Purvanchalis, Punjabis, Dalits and women, are believed to be in the reckoning for the top post. However, given how the national leadership has sprung surprises while naming the CMs in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, party insiders are awaiting another surprise on Wednesday.

Why Swearing Ceremony Will Be Held In Ramlila Maidan

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, was the first and only Delhi Chief Minister to choose the historic Ramlila Maidan for his oath ceremonies. On December 28, 2013, he took the oath for the first time at the historic ground.

The venue holds special significance for Kejriwal, as it was here that he joined Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement in 2011 and rose to prominence before coming to power as Delhi’s chief.

The anti-corruption movement, widely referred to as Anna Andolan, was a wave of protests and demonstrations throughout India starting in 2011, aimed at creating robust laws and enforcement to tackle widespread political corruption.

During the Andolan, a rally at Ramlila Maidan was held where a group of politicians and activists, including Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh, Prashant Bhushan, Kiran Bedi, Ram Jethmalani, and Medha Patkar, decided to invite Anna Hazare to lead the movement.
