A floral carpet, or ‘pookalam,’ laid out for Onam festivities at the Parthasarathy temple in Muthupilakk, Kollam district has sparked a controversy after 27 Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists were booked. The incident occurred at the Parthasarathy temple in Muthupilakk. According to temple committee member Mohanan, the carpet had an inscription of the RSS flag and that of Operation Sindoor, crafted with flowers.
The member stated that this act was a clear violation of a 2023 High Court order which was secured after frequent confrontations over flag installations near the temple during festivals. The temple committee’s complaint led to the registration of a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly “disobeying orders” and “giving provocation with intent to cause riot.”
The Kerala Police registered a case based on a complaint by the office bearer, who alleged that the carpet was laid in violation of an order from the Kerala High Court.
The incident has ignited a political firestorm, with the BJP condemning the police action as “shocking.” Kerala BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar questioned whether the state was being ruled by “Jamaat-e-Islami or under Pakistan’s governance.

He warned that the party would approach the court if the FIR was not withdrawn immediately.
