RAIPUR: A 47 year old man accused of accused a 16 year old girl for rejecting his marriage proposal has been arrested said a police official on Sunday. A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.
The incident came to the fore after a video of the man dragging the girl held by hair went viral on the social media. In the video said to be recorded on Saturday evening, accused Omkar Tiwari is seen, dragging the badly wounded teen by her hair, holding in his other hand the knife he had stabbed her.
The police immediately swung into action launched a probe and arrested him. Investigation revealed the girl worked at Omkar Tiwari’s grocery shop at the city’s Gudhiyari area. Infuriated Omkar Tiwari, allegedly drunk, barged into the girl’s home and started shouting at the family. He allegedly attacked the girl with a knife and stabbed her in the neck. She tried to run away but Tiwari chased her and dragged her by her hair until she collapsed on the road. It is learnt that victims mother has denied to accept Manojs proposal and had also informed to quit the job.
The girl is undergoing medical treatment at a government hospital and is critical said Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prashant Agrawal.
Following the incident, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) tweeted the clip expressing her anguish. “So many people are watching all this happening but no one is coming forward to help. Where is the administration?” Swati Maliwal questioned.
