In a significant blow to the narcotics trade in the region, the Jalandhar Rural Police Force of Punjab managed to apprehend a prominent drug dealer on Thursday. The arrested individual, Malkiat Singh, also known as Kali, was reportedly responsible for orchestrating a large-scale drug trafficking operation that involved transporting a 50 kg heroin consignment from Pakistan.

Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, revealed in Chandigarh that the operation was partially disrupted, with police units successfully seizing 9 kg of heroin, part of the larger consignment, from Singh’s control. This seizure has bolstered the overall recovery effort, which now totals an impressive 31.5 kg, considering that law enforcement agencies had previously confiscated 22.5 kg of the narcotic.

This significant development in the fight against drug trafficking in the region comes within a month following another major bust. The Jalandhar Rural Police had previously captured drug smuggler Joga Singh, who had ventured into Pakistani territory to secure the heroin consignment. A total of 8 kg of the illegal substance was retrieved from his possession.

Additionally, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar had successfully detained another key figure in the drug trade network, Shinder Singh, recovering 10 kg of heroin and drug money amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh.

These continuous efforts by the Punjab police signify a substantial crackdown on the drug trade increasing in the region, indicating a reinforced commitment to curtail the narcotics menace plaguing the state.
