Uttarakhand: Two people were killed after being hit by shooting stones on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district early on Monday, informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials.
As per the latest update, A 32-year-old man died in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district on Monday morning, minutes after he cleared debris from a landslide site. As many as three people were working to clear debris from a landslide in Kaudiyala region in Tehri Garhwal district when a fresh landslide took place.
The Badrinath highway stretch in the Chamoli area was blocked after a landslide close to a camp of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) late on Sunday.
The tasks to clear the debris on the highway in the Gauchar area of the district are in progress.
A group of people can be seen rushing away from the spot where a lot of debris is seen tumbling from the nearby bluff on the highway. There were no immediate reports of any casualties.
On Sunday, a landslide happened on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway (National Highway 58) close to Bayasi in the hill state’s Tehri Garhwal region.
The road from Kedarnath and Yamunotri, Dehradun to Badrinath are obstructed at a few points with rocks and stones tumbling down the hill slope following heavy rain.
The way to Kedarnath at Jaleshwar Mahadev and the one to Yamunotri at Silai bend in Uttarkashi, Rishikesh-Badrinath highway was blocked in Totaghati in Chamoli.
Authorities have said in excess of 100 roads, including four national highways, are as yet blocked owing to heavy rain in a few parts of the state. A stretch of the Badrinath highway has been obstructed for as long as 20 days, they said.
More than 200 machines have been sent by the public works office to clear the roads to facilitate smooth traffic development, as per a report by the department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state between August 25 and August 28.
