Bhilai: Congress’s Rajya Sabha MP from Chhattisgarh Ranjit Ranjan is on a tour of the state these days. As he has arranged many programs, he made a claim that on the lines of Rajasthan, cylinders will be provided to the housewives in Chhattisgarh for Rs. 500.

Praising Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s efforts for the people of the state, Ranjit Ranjan spoke on the subsidized gas cylinder scheme claiming it to be cleared in the upcoming assembly.

Contrarily, the price of non-subsidised LPG cylinders in Chhattisgarh has been hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder. The new price of a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder in Chhattisgarh is Rs 1,174. The price hike comes into effect from today, June 14, 2023.

The hike in LPG cylinder prices has been attributed to the rising cost of crude oil in the international market. The price of crude oil has been on the rise since the beginning of the year due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The government provides subsidies on LPG cylinders to the poor and middle-class households. However, the subsidy is not available on non-subsidised cylinders. The hike in non-subsidised LPG cylinder prices will have a direct impact on the consumers who do not get subsidies on LPG cylinders.

The government of Chhattisgarh under the leadership of CM Baghel has been trying to reduce its subsidy burden on LPG cylinders. The government has also been encouraging people to shift to cleaner cooking fuels such as electric stoves and induction cookers.
