RAIPUR: In a jolt to the BJP, Nand Kumar Sai (77) a former two-time Lok Sabha MP and three-time MLA, who served as the BJP’s state president in both Chhattisgarh and undivided Madhya Pradesh joined Congress a day after he quit the party in Chhattisgarh. This shift by a prominent BJP member comes on the heels of the upcoming Assembly polls in CG.

He joined the Congress party in the presence of CG CM Bhupesh Baghel, state party chief at the party headquarters.

In his resignation letter, submitted to the BJP president; he mentioned that he was hurt by some party leaders who were tarnishing his public image. He claimed that his colleagues were hatching conspiracies and leveling false allegations which had hurt him deeply.

Sai is a prominent tribal face of the party who hails from north CG. He was first elected as the Janata Party MLA in 1977 from the Tapkara seat in MP. He was elected as the BJPs Raigarh district unit chief in 1980 and was elected as the MLA from Tapkara subsequently in 1985 and 1998.
