Tirupati Balaji Mandir Silk Dupatta Scam: Following the laddus containing fake ghee, a new scam has surfaced at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam in Andhra Pradesh. Following the laddus, a massive silk dupatta scam has emerged at the Tirupati temple. The contractor repeatedly supplied 100% polyester dupattas instead of pure mulberry silk dupattas.

The trust alleges that from 2015 to 2025, the sacred silk dupattas given to devotees and donors were actually made of 100% polyester. Over a period of 10 years, approximately ₹55 crore worth of fake silk dupattas were supplied to the temple. Polyester dupattas worth ₹350 were sold for ₹1,300, claiming they were silk. The TTD Board initiated an internal investigation on the instructions of Chairman B.R. Naidu, which brought the entire matter to light. The entire matter has been handed over to the State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for investigation.

According to Naidu, large donors to the temple are presented with a silk scarf as a prasad. Silk scarves are also used in rituals like the Vedashirvachanam. Even those were made using cheaper polyester.

CM Naidu said that samples of the dupattas were sent to two labs for scientific testing, one of which is under the Central Silk Board (CSB). Both reports revealed the dupattas to be polyester. The dupattas also lacked the mandatory silk hologram, which confirms genuine silk. Naidu added that the same company and its affiliated units had been supplying dupattas to the TTD for the past 10 years. Following the test report, the TTD Trust Board cancelled all existing tenders issued by the company.
