Delhi Water Minister Atishi has addressed a letter to the city’s police, requesting protection for the pipelines from possible sabotage attempts amid a severe water crisis in the nation’s capital. Due to the lack of water, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began protesting the AAP government on Sunday. Atishi asserted The patrolling crew of the Delhi Jal Board found evidence of pipeline tampering in multiple locations.
Atishi wrote a letter to Sanjay Arora, the commissioner of police in Delhi: “In order to prevent miscreants or those with bad intentions from interfering with water pipes, which have now turned into Delhi’s lifelines, I am writing to seek the deployment of police forces to patrol and secure our major pipelines for the next 15 days. The very challenging water deficit that the people of Delhi are currently experiencing would get worse if there was any foul play or sabotage.”
She stated that the DJB teams discovered minor damage to the water supply pipelines. “The primary water pipeline that transports water from Sonia Vihar WTP to South Delhi, the South Delhi Rising Mains, experienced a significant leak yesterday, according to our ground patrol team. This was in Garhi Medhu, next to the DTL substation. Our patrolling team discovered that the leak was caused by multiple huge 375-mm bolts and one 12-inch bolt that had been removed from the pipeline. The discovery of multiple big bolts cut suggests sabotage and foul play.” she claimed. She claimed that the situation was made worse by the inability to provide a significant amount of water to the citizens of Delhi. For the next fifteen days, Atishi demanded that the police protect Delhi’s main pipelines.
Meanwhile, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, a BJP MP from West Delhi, and other party members protested the Delhi government’s management of the water problem in Najafgarh.
“Dwarka RWAs have been calling and meeting with us to express their concerns over the scarcity of water. They can’t use government tankers since private water tankers are too expensive for them. I inspected some broken pipes today, and I found that a lot of water is being wasted. While the issue is within their department, the Delhi government is holding other state governments accountable for the water scarcity. Not out of empathy, but because Atishi is a minister in the Delhi government and needs to focus on her department,” she said.
Today, AAP MLAs visited Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil’s home to ask him to end the crisis.
“Yesterday, we wrote him a letter. We made an effort to get in touch with him by WhatsApp, SMS, and letter and requested an appointment. Our letter was received by someone yesterday, but when we arrived today, we were informed that he was not at his home. It is unclear to us what the truth is. However, we demand that the central government step in and assign CR Patil the duty of overseeing interstate coordination,” said AAP MLA Dilip Pandey.
For humanitarian reasons, Atishi urged Haryana to let more water into the Yamuna River last week. She stated that the national capital was suffering from a 70 million gallons per day (MGD) shortage as a result of a lack of raw water.
Because of a scarcity of raw water, Delhi’s regular water output of approximately 1,002 MGD on June 6 decreased to 932 MGD on Friday, atishi added.
