New Delhi: The ordeal of novel coronavirus in India doesn’t seem to halt anytime soon. With recording over 60,000 for the second straight day, India jumps to the first position in reporting the highest daily coronavirus cases in the world.

On Friday, India reported the single-day spike of 61,537 coronavirus cases and 933 deaths in a day, according to the Ministry of Health. With this, the COVID-19 tally has surged to 20,88,612 in India, including 6,19,088 active cases.

As per ICMR reports, The total number of Covid-19 samples tested up to August 7 is 2,33,87,171 including 5,98,778 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The number of recovered people in the last 24 hours has surged to 48900, taking the total tally to 14,27,005. With this, the recovery rate of India has shoot up to 68.32%.

According to worldometer.org, India reported 3,28,903 new coronavirus cases in the first six days of August. The corresponding figure in the US was 3,26,111 and in Brazil 2,51,264. With this, India is emerging as the biggest Covid-19 hotspot in the world in August.

Coronavirus cases in the world has crossed the 1.92 crore-mark with the United States having the maximum number of cases in the world. US now has 49 lakh coronavirus cases while Brazil has 29 lakh. India continues to be at the third position and has recorded 20.88 lakh cases
