Bilaspur. In a major action following the Bilaspur train accident, the Railway Board has transferred two senior officers, including the Bilaspur DRM. This action was taken following the preliminary report of the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS).
On November 4th, a local MEMU collided with a freight train parked at Lal Khand near Bilaspur. Eleven people, including loco pilot Vidyasagar, were killed in the accident. It is being reported that the CRS report commissioned by the Railway Board after the accident identified “Error in Train Operation” as the primary cause of the accident.
Following the report, the Railway Board took action late last evening, replacing Bilaspur DRM Rajmal Khoiwal with Umesh Kumar from Western Railway. Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) Rajiv Kumar Barnwal was transferred to East Central Railway and replaced by RK Chaudhary.
Earlier, the Railway Board had sent Senior DOP Masood Alam on forced leave and appointed Shashank Kosta as Senior DOP in his place.
Bilaspur Train Accident: What Happened
On early Wednesday morning (November 5, 2025), the Korba-Bilaspur MEMU local train collided with a goods train in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh. The death toll recorded had 11 fatalities and 20 injured. The damaged coach was removed later, and traffic on the Mumbai-Howrah rail line was restored. The up, down, and middle lines were cleared, but was really left was to know the cause of the accident and punish the people behind the accident.
This major train accident occured near the Lal Khand of the Gataura station. Upon learning of the accident, teams from the railway and local administration arrived at the scene. A rescue operation was launched without delay. Eleven passengers died in the accident. Twenty passengers were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
