Hyderabad: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will on Wednesday kickstart the party’s campaign for the November 30 assembly polls in Telangana with a bus yatra. The bus yatra, named ‘Vijayabheri Yatra’, will cover all 119 assembly constituencies in the state and is aimed at exposing the failures of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government and taking the Congress’ ‘six guarantees’ and ‘declarations’ to the people.
The bus yatra will be flagged off from the Ramappa temple in Mulugu district, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will offer prayers at the temple and then address a public meeting. The bus yatra will then proceed to Bhupalpally, Ramagundam, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal, covering five Lok Sabha constituencies in the first three days.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to participate in the bus yatra for three days, from October 18 to 20. Priyanka Gandhi, who is the Congress general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, is expected to participate in the bus yatra for two days. Other senior Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, will also participate in the bus yatra at different stages.
The Congress is hoping to make a comeback in Telangana in the upcoming assembly polls. The party had lost power to the BRS in the 2018 assembly elections. However, the Congress has been gaining ground in the state in recent months, and the party is confident of putting up a strong fight in the upcoming polls.
The Congress has released a manifesto for the Telangana assembly polls, which promises a number of freebies and welfare schemes for the people. The party has also promised to create jobs and revive the state’s economy.
The BRS, on the other hand, is confident of retaining power in the state. The party has been campaigning on its track record of the last eight years. The BRS has also promised a number of new schemes for the people in its manifesto.
The Telangana assembly polls are scheduled to be held on November 30 and the results will be declared on December 3.
