A candidate at one of the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) centers has accused the women security guards of molesting her during a search. That led the State Police Chief, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, to open an investigation into the matter. A Nalbari examinee posted a video on Sunday on Facebook explaining the ordeal and said, “The security officials put their hands inside the lower part of my body and even touched my private part.
In her hearing, she complained of embarrassment and shame; she said, “I never agreed to take the examination had I known this would happen to me. ” She also said many of the female candidates were subjected to similar invasive searches, adding that they had to pull down their clothes in a compromising position during the search. ”I was able to do national-level exams, but I have never undergone such examination. ” While commending them for their concern about cheating, this was uncouth; she said as she called on the chief minister to look into the matter, emphasising that there are two more phases to the examination.
On the social media platform X, Singh accepted the claims of harassment by the female police officers during the examination in Nalbari. He said it would be addressed soon because all the Range DIG, District Commissioner, and District Superintendent of Police in the area are female.
Further, the Lakhimpur candidate was caught holding unfair means of material, which resulted in the FIR lodged by Singh. He said that the materials having been smuggled within the undergarments of a female candidate were said to have been intended for cheating.
Some parents of the students have expressed anxiety about the security measures, in particular after cases where girls in traditional dresses were forced to remove their dupattas beside the exam halls. Criticism of the invasive measures was made by the Assam Jatiya Parishad leader, Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
