Who Is Aman Sehrawat?
Aman was born in 2003. He lost his parents when he was 11 years old. His grandfather brought him up. Aman lost his mother first. His father thought that his son might go into depression, so he put him into wrestling. His dream was that his son should become a wrestler. When Aman started learning wrestling, his father also passed away 6 months later. This was the second big shock for him.
“My parents always wanted me to be a wrestler. They didn’t know anything about the Olympics but they wanted me to be a wrestler. I dedicate this medal to my parents and to the nation,” he said, after winning the bout.
He comes from Birohar village of Jhajjar in Haryana. After the death of his parents, Aman was raised by his grandfather and then his aunt. Aman came from the famous Chhatrasal Akhara of Delhi, called the nursery of wrestling. This Akhara has produced many world-class wrestlers. These include big players like Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia. Now Aman has also followed in their footsteps.
India’s previous medals in wrestling came through KD Jadhav (bronze in 1952), Sushil Kumar (bronze in 2008 and silver in 2012), Yogeshwar Dutt (bronze in 2012), Sakshi Malik (bronze in 2016), Bajrang Punia (bronze in 2020) and Ravi Dahiya (2020).
