The Middle East is raging with war. The US, Israel, and Iran are bombing heavily. Thousands of people have lost their lives in this war. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated on Monday that eight Indian citizens have died in various incidents in the Middle East, while one is still missing. The government claims that efforts are underway to locate the missing citizen. Speaking to the media, Aseem R. Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf), Ministry of External Affairs, said that an Indian citizen recently lost his life in an attack in Kuwait. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
Although he did not elaborate on the cause of death, he stated that the Embassy in Kuwait is in contact with the deceased’s family and, in collaboration with local authorities, is providing all possible assistance to expedite the return of his body to India. Mahajan claimed that approximately 5.5 million travelers have returned to India from the Middle East since February 28th.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We continue to monitor the situation. We continue to appeal for restraint and de-escalation, and emphasize dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflict as soon as possible.” He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on March 28th.
PM Modi discussed with them the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and agreed on the need to ensure the safety of merchant ships and freedom of navigation. Speaking to the Crown Prince and Prince of Saudi Arabia by phone, PM Modi also reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Additional Secretary (Gulf) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Aseem R. Mahajan, said that millions of Indian diaspora members live in various countries in the Middle East. The government is extremely concerned about their safety. Our embassies in these countries are working 24 hours a day. The Indian community is constantly in touch. For this, a 24×7 helpline is being operated and necessary advisories are being issued regularly.
