NEW DELHI: India on Saturday reported 6,155 new Covid-19 cases, up from Friday’s tally of 6,050 infections. With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in India stand at 4,47,51,259. According to the data released by the health ministry, there are 31,194 active cases in the country. The active cases account for 0.07per cent of total infections.
The fatality rate stood at 1.19 per cent. The death toll rose to 5,30,954 after 11 new deaths were added in the last 24 hours.
Delhi on Friday logged 733 fresh Covid cases, the highest in more than seven months, with a positivity rate of 19.93 per cent, according to data shared by the city government’s health department.
Delhi has witnessed a spurt in the number of fresh Covid infections over the last few days amid a sharp rise in H3N2 influenza cases in the country.
According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered so far under the nationwide Covid vaccination drive.
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya in a virtual meeting with state health ministers on Friday asked them to ramp up testing, monitor cases of influenza-like illnesses to identify emerging hotspots and ensure readiness of hospital infrastructure. He asked the state health ministers to review the preparedness over the next two days and conduct mock drills on April 10 and 11.
It was observed that 23 states and UTs had average tests per million below the national average.
“Irrespective of the new COVID variants, the five-fold strategy of ‘Test-Track-Treat-Vaccinate and Adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ continue to remain the tested strategy for COVID management. This would facilitate the undertaking of appropriate public health measures, he said,” Mandaviya said
