Sixteen Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Upampalli Kerlapal area along the Sukma-Dantewada border.
The gunfight broke out in the morning hours in a forest under the Kerlapal police station area where a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation, an official said.
He said personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are involved in the operation launched on Friday night based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the Kerlapal area.
“Bodies of 16 Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site so far. A decisive battle is going on against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh, the aim of which is to eliminate Naxalism from Bastar by 31 March 2026. In this campaign, all the security forces including Bastar Police, DRG, Bastar Fighter, CRPF, Cobra, BSF, and general security forces are taking effective action.
333 Naxalites killed in 14 months
After the formation of the BJP government, 333 Naxalites have been killed in 63 encounters so far by the soldiers. This includes the figures of today’s encounter as well. However, the number of Naxalites killed may increase even more.
Apart from the encounter of Naxalites, many semi-automatic weapons along with a large amount of explosives have also been recovered. Many documents have also been recovered from the Naxalite organization, on the basis of which the police is getting continuous success.
