NEW DELHI: Prominent instant messaging app, WhatsApp after its biggest global outage of almost 1.5 hours ever since 2021 restored its service by 2:15 P.M.
Prominent online tool Down Detector started noticing unusually high “problem reports” at 12.07 pm, and had listed thousands of such reports by 1 pm in India, WhatsApp’s biggest market by user base.
A spokesperson of Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram besides WhatsApp, acknowledging the outage in an official statement said- We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.
In India, cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow, while globally users from the US, Germany, South Africa, Bahrain, Bangladesh and several other countries complained on the platform that the service is currently creating a disturbance and not working smoothly.
As soon as the services broke down “#whatsappdown” trended on Twitter, it garnered over 90,000-plus tweets on the microblogging platform.
In the last outage reported by Meta in October 2021, WhatsApp and Instagram were inaccessible to billions of users for around six hours.
