NEW YORK: According to reports, Twitter’s office buildings will be closed until Monday after a dramatic number of employees are said to have left the microblogging platform. The report mentioned that after a 5:00 pm Thursday deadline given by Musk that read- to choose whether to quit or stay on Twitter, several decide to depart with three months severance pay. Additionally, the mail also mentioned that it would disable badge access until Monday.
It is however not clear so far how many employees are a part of the mass exodus. “Entire teams representing critical infrastructure are voluntarily departing the company, leaving the company at serious risk of being able to recover. We are skilled professionals with lots of options, so Elon has given us no reasons to stay and many to leave,” the engineer said.
Meanwhile, e-commerce giant Amazon began layoffs earlier this week and declared that the corporate ranks will extend into next year. In a note sent to employees, Jassy said the company told workers in its devices and books divisions about layoffs on Wednesday. He said it also offered some other employees a voluntary buyout offer.
Among other social media firms, Facebook Parent Meta said last week it layoff 11,000 people which accounts for almost 13 percent of its workforce.
