Residents have been urged to turn off their lights at 10:30 PM as power supply will be cut for a planned blackout as the nation carries out a mock drill exercise.

In a video message, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Amritsar, Sakshi Sahni, said, “Mock drill will be carried out in two ways. A siren will be heard at 4 pm, which will be for a simulation exercise… This will broadly be a practice drill. The second drill will be carried out at 10:30 pm, wherein another siren will be heard. There will be a blackout at that time. It is requested that everyone keep their lights off at that time… Power will be normally restored shortly after.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president and cabinet minister Aman Arora on Wednesday said that all border districts in Punjab have been put on high alert and public events have been cancelled following India’s missile strikes on nine terrorist organisation-linked locations in Pakistan.

Highlighting Punjab’s strategic importance, Arora said that the state shares a 532km border with Pakistan and, therefore, during any military tension, the role of the Punjab government becomes crucial. He said all districts near the border have been placed on high alert, and for public safety, the government has cancelled all types of public events.

“If Pakistan retaliates, we are fully prepared for it. We anticipated that when the Indian forces strike, Pakistan would attempt a counterattack in response. Accordingly, all necessary arrangements have already been made,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has praised the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor and has stated to support the nation in tough times.

CM Mann has also expressed grief over the death of three sikh men near Ponch Gurudwara.
