Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in six Indian states: South Bengal, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Gujarat. Besides, Assam and Meghalaya will also receive extremely heavy rainfall for the next two days. In Punjab, strong winds are also expected along with rain in the districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh. People have had relief from the heat for the last two days. The maximum temperature recorded an average decrease of 3.9 degrees, which is 6 degrees below normal.
The highest temperature in Punjab was recorded at 34.6 degrees in Faridkot. Light to moderate rain occurred in many districts, including Ludhiana 4.4 mm, Patiala 3.0 mm and Mohali 0.5 mm of rain. According to the Meteorological Department, most of the districts of the state will remain cloudy today and there will be relief from the heat.
According to the Meteorological Center, warnings of strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rains have been issued in many districts of Punjab from June 17 to 22. Today, a yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. The temperature may increase by 3-4 degrees in the next two days, but after that a decrease of 2-3 degrees can be recorded again.
Weather of some cities of Punjab
- Amritsar: There will be light clouds, temperature may increase. The temperature may remain between 28 to 37 degrees.
- Jalandhar: Light clouds, temperature may increase by 5 degrees. Temperature is likely to remain between 26 to 36 degrees.
- Ludhiana: Light clouds, temperature rises. Temperature may remain between 23 to 36 degrees.
- Patiala: Light clouds, temperature rise. Temperature likely to remain between 26 to 35 degrees.
- Mohali: Light clouds, temperature rises. Temperature may remain between 26 to 35 degrees.
