Delhi: Delhi Police have detained farmers who were protesting at Ghazipur near the Delhi-UP border today. Further extensive security measures have been taken by Delhi Police at Singhu border, which separates North West Delhi from Ghazipur.
Farmer organizations, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), have called for the “mahapanchayat,” stating that the country’s unemployment rate is on the rise. At the protest site, some farmers were seen kicking down police-erected barricades and shouting protest-related chants.
Along with the Delhi Police, more officers from Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur, have been stationed along the borders. There are traffic jams in some parts of the city due to the inspection of every car entering the national capital.
Earlier on Sunday, Rakesh Tikait, a farmer leader, was detained by police as he attempted to enter the capital to participate in the “mahapanchayat” at the Ghazipur border. Later after being released and sent home Rakesh Tikait tweeted in Hindi that “The fight will go on until the very last breath. won’t give up, won’t grow weary, won’t bow down.”
To prevent any unexpected incident, there’s a significant deployment on the railroad tracks, bus stops, and metro stations as well. According to officials, the Delhi police have asked travelers to stay away from some routes.
