Elon Musk’s social media company, X, has clarified that it will no longer tolerate any illegal or obscene content on its platform. The company stated that if a user posts such content or uses the AI tool Grok to create inappropriate content, their account will be permanently suspended.
X’s decision comes after a stern warning from the Indian government. The company has also stated that it will fully cooperate with the government and law enforcement agencies if necessary.
X has stated that there will be no leniency regarding illegal content on the platform. Immediate action will be taken, especially in cases involving child sexual exploitation. Such content will be removed as soon as it is discovered, and the account posting it will be permanently suspended. The company also says that police and other agencies will be informed of such cases.
Elon Musk has clearly stated that if anyone uses Grok AI to create inappropriate images or objectionable content, they will face the same penalties as those who post them. He says that the misuse of AI is also covered by the law. Musk stated that the same rules apply to content created with Grok as other posts.
On January 2, India’s IT Ministry ordered X to immediately remove obscene and illegal content, specifically monitoring content created by Grok AI.
The government also asked X to report within 72 hours what action it had taken so far, and warned that legal action could be taken if the rules were not followed.
The government had received complaints that fake and pornographic images of women were being shared on X. It is alleged that many of these images were created using Grok AI.
Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, demanding his intervention in this matter. The government stated that such content is derogatory to women and directly violates the law. Following this, pressure mounted on X, and the company has now decided to take strict action.
