Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has achieved another milestone. Sunita Williams has become the first woman to fly a new spacecraft on a test mission in space. 58-year-old Sunita Williams flew on Boeing’s Starliner capsule with NASA astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Sunita Williams and Wilmore will continue their space expedition at the International Space Center. their mission on the Starliner is an important step in expanding humanity’s access to space through commercial partnerships.
The mission, dubbed Boeing Crew Flight Test (CFT), is a crucial step in certifying the Starliner for regular crewed flights to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. If successful, it will make Starliner the second private spacecraft after SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to transport astronauts to and from the orbiting laboratory.
Earlier in 20212, became the first woman to complete a triathlon in space during her visit to the International Space Station.
