PM Modi and Election Commission AI Video: Kerala Police have taken major action in the case of creating an objectionable AI video of PM Modi and the Election Commission and making it viral on social media. Police have registered a case against social media platform X and one of its handles for creating a video in a “misleading and defamatory” manner about the Prime Minister and the Election Commission.
Police said a case was registered at the Cyber Crime Station in Thiruvananthapuram city late Wednesday night and an investigation has been launched to trace the culprit and take action as per law. An FIR has been filed under sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 336 (forgery), 353 (statements conducing to public mischief), 3(5) (common intention) and 174 (punishment for undue influence in election or for impersonation of any person) of the Indian Penal Code and section 66C (identity theft) of the Information Technology Act.
According to the FIR, a one-minute 17-second video was posted on a social media platform with the intention of inciting riots in society. ‘X’ allowed the content to be circulated despite instructions from authorities to remove it. Police said necessary legal notices were issued to the intermediary platform under the relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and Rules and directed to remove the unlawful content expeditiously. Police said that in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct and applicable legal provisions, the Cyber Operations Branch of the Kerala Police initiated immediate measures to prevent further circulation of the video.
Police said the general public is advised to exercise due caution and refrain from creating, sharing, or spreading unverified or misleading content, especially during the election period. Police also said that swift, legal, and impartial action will be taken against any activity that attempts to disrupt or influence a free and fair election.
