An investigative report by Futurism found that this chatbot, integrated into X (formerly Twitter), can reveal users’ personal information that shouldn’t be publicly available. According to the report, Grok shares sensitive information not only of celebrities or influential people, but also of ordinary people. These include current home addresses, contact details, family information, location data, etc. This information is being provided from sources that are not considered public, raising serious concerns about privacy and data security.

According to the report, Grok recently provided the residential address of Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, when asked by a user named X. Futurism says that even more worryingly, the chatbot easily replicated this task for non-public figures. During testing, Futurism used simple prompts like “(name) address” in Grok’s free web version. Out of 33 random names tested, Grok provided correct addresses for 10 homes. Seven answers were initially correct but later turned out to be fake addresses. Four were office addresses. The report warns that these details could be misused by anyone to stalk or endanger someone. This incident raises serious questions about the data privacy and security architecture of AI chatbots.

Grok also gave the option of 2 answers.

In some conversations, Grok provided users with ‘Answer A’ and ‘Answer B’ options, which included name, phone number, and home address. One of the options also contained the correct and current home address of the person the team had originally searched for. Investigators found that even when they only asked for the address, Grok also generated phone numbers, email IDs, family members’ information, and location data. This behavior is considered extremely dangerous for data privacy, as such information could be misused to threaten people’s personal safety.

Grok is known for its sarcastic and provocative personality. But in this case, this “rebellious charm” may have turned into recklessness. Because the chatbot openly discloses personal data, critics say xAI faces serious ethical and potentially legal questions about its handling of sensitive information. This controversy could spark a broader debate about responsibility, privacy protection, and security protocols for AI systems.
