All call recording apps in the Google Play store would be banned from today onwards after the Cupertino-based tech giant updated its play store policy. Based on the update, all call recording apps would be killed starting from 11th May onwards. There will be no changes for phones that come with an inbuilt call recording feature, the company said.
As per the update, the calling apps cannot use Google’s accessibility APIs. This has been done as part of the tech giant’s efforts to crack down on apps that use Android’s accessibility APIs for non-accessibility reasons. Issuing a clarification in this regard, Google said-the change will only affect third-party apps. However, the call recording on the Google Dialer will still function if it is available on your device or region. Any preloaded Dialer app with a call recording feature will work perfectly fine. But the apps with a call recording feature available on the Google Play store will be banned.
Shortly after the announcement, India’s most trusted caller verification app Truecaller removes its call recording features complying with the norms set by the universal web browsing portal.
Shortly after the announcement, India’s most trusted caller verification app Truecaller removes its call recording features complying with the norms set by the universal web browsing portal. “As per the updated Google Developer Program policies, we are unable to offer call recordings any longer. This will not affect devices that have call recording built into the device natively,” a Truecaller spokesperson said.
Google has always been against the idea of recording calls for years as it feels the act to be an invasion of user’s policy. The company had made the announcement a month ago.
