New Delhi: The five-day ‘India AI Impact Summit’, chaired by India, concluded on Friday with historic success. 88 countries and international organisations, including the US, China, France, Australia and the UK, signed the ‘New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact’ at the summit. This declaration not only sets a global framework for the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI), but also reflects India’s growing diplomatic and technological influence on the global stage. According to officials, the summit also discussed extensively the ethical, social and economic impacts of AI.

This agreement is being considered a major victory for India. During last year’s AI Action Summit in Paris, the US and UK refused to sign the declaration, citing the European regulatory approach. However, in New Delhi, India succeeded in bringing all these countries together. India’s main objective is to “democratize” AI, so that this technology is not limited to a few companies or individuals but is used for the broader benefit of society.

Key frameworks and initiatives of the manifesto:

Democratic Diffusion Charter: Expanding access to AI infrastructure and supporting local innovation.

Global AI Impact Commons: A practical platform that will help drive the adoption and replication of successful AI applications across sectors.

Trusted AI Commons: A shared collection of technical resources, benchmarks, and best practices to ensure the safety and trustworthiness of AI systems.

International Network of AI for Science Institutions: Connecting institutions around the world to promote the use of AI in scientific research.
