This is an important move in his political career with his party, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) when Vijay announced that he would be contesting in the next Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in two constituencies; Perambur and Trichy East. Vijay announced his candidature at a rally at Chennai, under the name C. Joseph Vijay.

Vijay will contest sitting MLA of Perambur, R.D. Shekar of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and in Trichy East, he will contest DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj. All 234 Assembly constituencies are to be contested on April 23 and counted on May 4.

Accompanied with his candidature were also a list of TVK applicants in some of the main constituencies such as T Nagar, Villivakkam, Gobichettipalayam, and Thirupparankundram. His major team members include N. Anand, Adhav Arjuna, R. Arunraaj, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, and K.A. Sengkottaiyan have been put forward indicating his emphasis on trusted leadership.

Placing TVK as a people alliance, Vijay attacked DMK ruling alliance as patch up alliance. He stressed that his candidates are well-grounded and they know what an average citizen goes through.

Describing his vision, Vijay gave the promise of a drug-free and self-sufficient Tamil Nadu. He also promised to carry out government exams in time and introduced financial support programs, such as 4, 000 per month to graduates and 2,000 to diploma holders, which would help in self-employment and increasing the youth population.
