Actor-turned-politician Vijay returned to the Tamil Nadu political scene with a bang on Thursday, when he gave a passionate and emotionally charged speech in which he dubbed the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), as an evil force and his newly formed political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a pure and principled option ahead of the 2026 Assembly election.
This was the first major statewide presence of Vijay since the fateful Karur stampede that took the life of 41 people in September. In his speech to a big crowd, Vijay took a combative approach and stated that the political scene in Tamil Nadu had now been reduced into a simple battle between the DMK and the TVK.
Vijay called the DMK the theeya sakthi (evil force), and his own party the thooya sakthi (pure force) using Tamil phrases that had a heavy political symbolism. He explained that he had now realised the reason why former AIADMK heavy weights, such as MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa had frequently employed crude language in their criticism of the DMK when they were in office.
The struggle in Tamil Nadu is no longer a complicated one. The thooya sakthi TVK versus the theeya sakthi DMK is now a battle between Vijay and supporters thooya sakthi versus DMK and theeya sakthi versus thooya sakthi, the news agencies quoted Vijay with rapturous applause.
Vijay initiated a wide ranging attack against the DMK government claiming that it had failed in major areas of its economy like in law and order, agriculture, education and the economy. He accused common people of misery brought about by poor governance and said that mismanagement and corruption had become common under the existing regime.
By making TVK a clean and people-centric alternative, Vijay claimed that his party was based on transparency, integrity and the real cause of the people. He encouraged citizens to trust in what he termed as a new political movement, which was determined to deliver ethical governance and social justice.
