Actor-cum-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay on Sunday launched a biting attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), telling his part that the 2026 election in the Tamil Nadu Assembly will be a personal political battle between his party and chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Speaking at a party rally in Vellore, Vijay referred to the coming elections as being between what he called the pure force of TVK and the evil force of the DMK.

By positioning the election as a political and ideological battle, Vijay claimed it would be a battle between him and Stalin and the future of Tamil Nadu would rest on the election. In reference to the party symbol of TVK, he labeled the polls as a Whistle revolution election, and encouraged his supporters to be committed and disciplined. It was also his plea to cadres not to cause any disturbances by tailing his car behind in great numbers after events.

Vijay had charged the DMK government with not keeping its promises to the people and charged it with rampant corruption and misrule. He said that the then ruling dispensation had lied to the people with empty promises and promised that, in case he was elected to power, he would personally go around the districts meeting the people and that he would not keep promises without fulfilling them.

By attacking the performance of the government, Vijay accused it of a failure of a model government that had not met the expectations. He also disputed the claim by Stalin that he considered all political parties as his friends using the previous occurrences to prove the point that the ruling party had wrongly attacked his movement.

By describing the 2026 elections as historic and possibly transformative, Vijay intended to energise the workers of the party, making TVK the alternative to the existing regime to be people-oriented.
