In a tragic accident on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway No. 4, thirteen people, including two children, died, and four were injured when their car hit a stationary truck in the Haveri district of Karnataka. Shivamogga District, Haveri’s Superintendent of Police, Anshukumar, also affirmed that all the deceased and injured were from the Badravati taluk. They are passengers coming back from the pilgrimage centres located in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
“The accident occurred near Gundenahalli cross in Byadagi taluk at the Pune-Bengaluru highway around 3:30 am The vehicle was speeding and the driver rammed his car into a parked truck causing severe damage” as mentioned by SP Anshukumar. The casualties could include Parushram, 45; Bhagya, 40, Nagesh, 50; Vishalaakshi, 50; Subhadrabayi, 65, Punya, 50, Manjulabayi, 57; Aadarsh, 23, driver of the Taxi; Manasa 24, Roopa 49, Manjula 50 and two children The injured have had to be admitted in the government hospital located in Haveri for treatment.
The tragic accident which took place involved a new Tempo Traveller purchased for the family to be used by there son Aadarsh. It was stated that the accused had offered Abhisheka at Mayakkadevi temple located at Kalaburagi district, they had also visited Tulaja Bhavani temple in Maharashtra and had burnt the pine before reaching Yallamma temple at Savadatti taluk in Belagavi district.
The parents of the two deceased children included Nagesh, a farmer, and Vishalaakshi, an Anganwadi worker who had taken a loan to purchase the vehicle for their son Aadarsh.
The Byadagi police have registered a case against the driver of the truck for violating the portion of the highway that he was not allowed to park on. The situation on the road is that parking large vehicles like cars and trucks is prohibited and in this case, the truck driver has started legal action against him said SP Anshukumar.
Loss of lives has been realized as a tragedy that has mourned the community by proving the importance of road safety and loss incurred by families and communities on account of such accidents.
