Dehradun: A pre-wedding photoshoot in the midst of the Ganga River in Rishikesh took a perilous turn for a couple from Delhi as they became stranded when the water level unexpectedly rose. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Commandant, Manikant Mishra, identified the couple as Manas Kheda (27) and Anjali Aneja (25). Mishra reported that during the rescue, Manas Kheda was found unconscious.
Following the evacuation from the river, the couple received initial medical assistance before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The SDRF received an urgent call from the Beasi police check post in Rishikesh, indicating that a Delhi couple, identified as Manas Kheda and Anjali Aneja, had encountered a life-threatening situation in the Singtoli area of the river. The couple’s address could not be verified immediately due to their distressed state.
Responding promptly, a team led by rescue commander Deepak Negi reached the scene and discovered the couple in imminent danger of being swept away by the rising water. With the assistance of local residents, the SDRF successfully rescued the couple from the precarious situation. An SDRF personnel explained that when the couple entered the river, the water level was low, and they failed to anticipate the sudden rise.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of river conditions, emphasizing the importance of exercising caution during such activities.
