The brutal killing of the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara dera chief in Uttarakhand, captured in a chilling CCTV video, has shocked the nation. Two assailants on bikes opened fire on Baba Tarsem Singh within the shrine premises early Thursday morning, as revealed by a CCTV footage shared by PTI.
In the video, Baba Tarsem Singh can be seen sitting on a chair around 6:30 am when the assailants arrived and fired at him. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Khatima, he succumbed to his injuries, confirmed Udham Singh Nagar SSP Manju Nath.
The Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara holds immense significance for the Sikh community and is situated on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.
Following the gruesome incident, the Uttarakhand Police swiftly formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the murder. Additional police forces have been deployed in the Nanakmatta area to ensure peace, with authorities urging the Sikh community to remain calm.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators, with police collaborating with central agencies and launching a massive search operation.
Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar termed the incident as “very serious” and confirmed the formation of the SIT comprising officials from the Special Task Force (STF) and local police. Senior officials have rushed to the scene, with the DIG Kumaon also en route to assess the situation and interact with locals.
The shocking murder has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting authorities to take swift action to ensure justice is served and to maintain law and order in the region.
