The situation in Noida grew tense as demonstrations of industrial workers grew in their demand to increase wages, and the situation became violent in Phase-2, such as sectors 60 and 62. The four- to five-day-long agitation received a very serious twist on Monday when protestors turned to stone-pelting and incinerated a number of government vehicles.

The police said the violence started when a female employee was reportedly hurt by a lathi-charge by security guards. The event also contributed to the anger of the protesting community that resulted in fights between the police and workers. The demonstrations have been attended by thousands of factory employees who have been pressuring to have wage revisions as stipulated in the labour laws.

Images of the region depicted ruined police cars and smoke coming out of the government buildings that were being burned, and it showed the severity of protests. The government reacted by sending in heavy police force in the industrial areas in the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate to curb the situation.

Another effect of the protests on daily life has been the hindrance in the movement of traffic in the areas around the Delhi-Noida border. Road blockades and security checks had led to the severe congestion that caused commuters to spend hours in traffic jams.

The top police and administrative representatives are on high alert and have encouraged the workers to remain peaceful as they are assured that their grievances will be resolved through discussion. Meanwhile, attempts are being made to bring sanity and avert the continued violence in the industrial hub.
