Lucknow: The Waqf Amendment Bill will be introduced today in the biggest temple of democracy (Parliament) to amend the country’s biggest and most influential Muslim organization, Waqf Board. After the Question Hour, the Waqf Amendment Bill will be tabled in the Lok Sabha at noon. Speaker Om Birla has set 8 hours for discussion on this.
Given this, there is a high alert throughout Uttar Pradesh. An alert has been issued in the state from the DGP headquarters. Along with this, instructions have been given to keep security tight. Apart from this, instructions have been given to keep a special watch on sensitive areas. Recently, during Namaz, many people of the Muslim community also protested against the Waqf Amendment Bill by tying black bands. The police have been alerted, and therefore, police officers in all zones also marched on foot with four companies of PAC.
NDA has been given 4 hours 40 minutes, the rest of the time has been given to the opposition. It is expected to be discussed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Eight hours each have been allotted to discuss the proposed law in both the houses.
Modi Cabinet Approved Waqf Amendment Bill in February
The cabinet approved the Waqf Amendment Bill on 19 February. A new draft of the Waqf Bill has been prepared on the basis of the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed on the bill. The JPC report on the bill was presented in Parliament on 13 February in the first phase of the budget session. The committee submitted a 655-page report to Speaker Om Birla on 30 January. During this, JPC President Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey, and other BJP MPs were present. However, no opposition MP was seen.
