The Ganga River is rising to flood due to the continued rainfall in the area, submerging all major ghats in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The water level of the river has been continuously increasing not only in Varanasi but also downstream to the city of Ballia, and this is why authorities have already deployed flood outposts in the involved districts.
As a report has stated, a reverse flow has been witnessed in the Varuna River as the rising Ganga waters have affected the low-lying areas with floods. Some of the most famous ghats are submerged in the core of Varanasi. The ground at Assi Ghat, where the revered Subah-e-Banaras event is held, is currently underwater. Water has reached the police outpost of the Dashashwamedh Ghat, and also the holy temple of Maa Sheetla is flooded.
Water Police Inspector Rajkishore Pandey said that because of threatening water levels, the religious water ceremony (Ganga Aarti) at Dashashwamedh Ghat will be performed in a figure. Devotees will be barred to view the ritual in boats until given the go-ahead due to safety reasons.
In a bid to help the victims of the floods, the district administration has established 46 relief camps so far 46, according to the verification of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Kumar. These camps are to shelter and deliver basic amenities to individuals in low-lying lands.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is to make a visit to Varanasi on Thursday. He will pray at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Baba Kal Bhairav Temple. The Chief Minister is also to visit some of the ongoing infrastructure projects, besides reviewing the flood preparedness and monsoon arrangements with district officials. He can also go to the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath.
As the holy month of Sawana is taking place, the arrangements of accommodating the flood of Kanwariyas and devotees of Shiva will also be under examination when the CM visits the venue.
