Recently, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Secondary Education, Gulab Devi, assured that the UP Board examination process will be free from cheating and called upon to focus on efforts of the government in this regard. The minister assured the house that, like before this year, steps would be taken to curb cheating in exams through the newly passed Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. This law came into operation in June 2024 and offers special legal provisions to prevent cheating mafias in a much better way than before, when offenders were arrested under NSA only.
In the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024, some specific initiatives are planned to prevent cheating gangs from carrying out their acts. For instance, it provides tough measures that would be taken against the offenders, which include fines extending up to ₹ 1 crore and possible jail term or life imprisonment. These legal provisions, Gulab Devi noted, are a giant leap in the right direction to ensure that the examination experiences are not compromised or rigged in any way, shape, or form.
This year, around 54.5 lakh candidates are set to appear for the UP Board exams in class 10 and class 12; the authorities want to ensure that there is no unfair practice during exams in Uttar Pradesh. Gulab Devi told the people out there that the government plan is not going to affect the credibility of examinations in any single way; all she was aiming to do was ensure that all the students get a complete chance to display their talents. Thus, in an attempt to protect its image as a state that allows fair examinations while combating cheating during this crucial period for students, it endeavors to implement this new law and remain persistent.
