Seven pilgrims returning from Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh died when their minibus collided with a truck near Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The fatal crash involving the victims reportedly took place near 8:30 AM Tuesday when the victims were on their way back to Andhra Pradesh.

The accident took place around 65 km away from the district headquarters, Tupmar area, Jabalpur District Collector Deepak Kumar Saxena said. A truck travelling on the wrong side of the highway collided with the minibus and straight into a catastrophe.

Eyewitnesses on the scene said the truck driver was going against traffic and gave the pilgrims in the minibus not enough time to respond. It was so powerful that seven people died on the spot, and a few more were trapped inside the twisted shell of the vehicle.

Police and medical team rushed to the site and worked on rescuing those still inside the vehicle. Emergency medical attention was at first given to injured passengers at nearby hospitals. The way is being taken to manage the incident as authorities investigate the cause of the accident.

Once again, reckless driving and wrong-side traffic violations have highlighted the dangers that come with this type of accident. The officials have sought strict enforcement of traffic regulations in future to avoid such tragedies. The deceased families are being contacted while an effort is made to assist the victims and their relatives.
