Sambhal Violence: Sambhal witnessed intense violence on Sunday when a large crowd assembled near a mosque and began chanting slogans as a survey team resumed its work. The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to recover the cost of damages to public property from protesters involved in the Sambhal violence, while posters of ‘stone pelters’ will be displayed at prominent public locations.
The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal are planning to put up posters with photographs of more than 100 protesters who were allegedly involved in firing shots and pelting stones during the violence that broke out in the town on November 24 after a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid. Four people were killed and several policemen were injured in the clashes.
“No innocents will be persecuted but those whom we have identified through video footage of the drone cameras and the available CCTV footage of the area that day will face strict punitive action. We have sought help from our cyber cell sleuths to identify those involved in the incident. Their posters with photographs will be put up at main crossings and help has been sought from local people to help police in getting those whom we have identified through various sources arrested,” Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sambhal, said.
Rahul Gandhi had demanded intervention from the Supreme Court
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has fiercely attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party over the Sambhal incident. Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP has shown partiality in Sambhal and did not listen to one side. Earlier on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi had posted on X on the Sambhal issue and demanded intervention from the Supreme Court.
On November 19, the Supreme Court ordered the Advocate Commissioner to conduct a survey of the Jama Masjid. The Hindu side claims that the place where Shahi Jama Masjid is located was the Shri Harihar Temple, which was demolished to build a mosque. After this, the matter escalated so much that it reached the court. After which the court ordered a survey of the mosque. After the court’s order, the team that arrived to conduct the survey was pelted with stones by miscreants. 4-5 people died in the incident.
