Sambhal: Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra set out to take stock of the situation in the area after violence over the survey of a mosque in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Congress workers have gathered outside their 10 Janpath residence to accompany the Gandhi siblings. Massive security arrangements have been made on the route, and the Uttar Pradesh Police will try to stop the Gandhi siblings from reaching Sambhal, citing sensitive law and order situation in the area.
On their route to Sambhal, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were later stopped at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway’s Ghazipur border. As Congress members gathered at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Ghaziabad in anticipation of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Sambhal, the traffic jams got worse.
On being questioned whether the police would stop Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Indirapuram ACP Swatantra Kumar Singh responded that they “do not have any such command as of now.” “The orders that I have been given are to maintain good security here. We will follow the commands given to us.” ACP Swatantra Kumar Singh said.
The town in western Uttar Pradesh is under prohibition after a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid resulted in violent battles with police that killed four people and injured numerous more. Due to petitions claiming it was constructed on the site of a Hindu temple, the Mughal-era mosque is at the center of a legal dispute. The FIR filed in connection with the violence, Zia Ur Rehman, a local member of the Samajwadi Party, Mahmood’s son, Sohail Iqbal, and more than 700 other individuals have been charged.
The administration and police have stated that due to the state of law and order, they will not permit outside visitors to the region. The prohibition orders are now in effect until December 31. Earlier, a delegation of MPs from the Samajwadi Party was stopped from entering the district.
In a letter to the police superintendents of Amroha and Bulandshahr, as well as the police commissioners of Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad, District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia urged them to stop Mr. Gandhi. The delegation includes five Uttar Pradesh Congress MPs.
