Prayagraj: Preparations for Maha Kumbh-2025 in the confluence city Prayagraj have begun as the day of the Mela is coming closer. Every preparation is being closely monitored at the government level. Along with the basic arrangements of electricity, roads and water, other works are under progress in the Mahakumbh area. To ensure smooth power supply, new electricity lines are being laid along with setting up new power stations.
Spread across 4,000-hectares, Uttar Pradesh (UP) is setting up the world’s largest ‘tent city’ to host an estimated 400 million pilgrims for the Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025. That is, according to some estimates, also the world’s largest gathering of humanity.
The convergence of 400 million people, which equals the combined population of the United States and the United Kingdom, during the auspicious 45 days of Mahakumbh in Jan-Feb 2025, would be 1.6 times the current population of Uttar Pradesh, pegged at 250 million.
Underground cable is being laid on the Peshwai road of the Akharasm to ensure regular power supply in the Kumbh mela campus and surrounding areas.
The Maha Kumbh will start with the procession of Peshwai coming out of the Akharas of Hindu Sanatan Dharma. In this, different Akharas enter the Kumbh area in a grand procession with traditional pomp and show through different routes of the city. Electric poles often become an inconvenience in these Peshwai routes, hence they are being removed.
Chief Engineer of Purvanchal Electricity Distribution Corporation, Pramod Kumar Singh said that electric poles are being removed from all the routes of Peshwai. For this, permission has been received from the Defence Ministry. Now the work of laying underground cables in the parade ground and surrounding areas of Kumbh area has gained momentum. Similarly, underground cable is being laid from Triple IT intersection to the airport. Permanent electrical work is being done for Rs 140 crores.
It is noteworthy that in view of Maha Kumbh, the administration wants to complete all the work by October, so that if there is any deficiency, it can be completed in time. Under this, permanent electricity works are being implemented in the city. Under this, two power houses of 132 KV capacity are being built in the city. One of these includes the area of Hetapatti and the other of Bailey. Hetapatti power house has become operational. At the same time, action is going on regarding Bailey’s station. Apart from this, 94 distribution transformers have also been installed.
About 23,000 CCTV cameras and an artificial intelligence-based chatbot system will complement the security detail for the temporary settlement, which will be manned by a dedicated brass of senior police and administration officials.
