Prayagraj Magh Mela 2026: The Magh Mela is scheduled to begin on January 3rd and will continue until February 15th. An estimated 12 to 15 crore devotees are expected to attend the event. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued clear instructions that there will be no VIP protocols at the main bathing festivals, allowing ordinary devotees to bathe without any obstacles.

the country’s largest annual religious fair, held every year in the month of Magh on the banks of the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna and invisible Saraswati in the Kumbh city of Prayagraj. It started on the banks of the Sangam on December 2 with Ganga Pujan. This year, more than 15 crore devotees from across the country and the world are expected to come to the Magh Mela. The theme of this year’s Magh Mela will be easy, safe, clean and accessible. For the safe completion of the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, the administration and the pilgrimage priests recited the Vedas and performed Aarti and worship of Mother Ganga amidst the flow of the Sangam and sought the blessings of Mother Ganga by performing Ganga Puja for the success of the fair.

This year’s Magh Mela is the first after the Mahakumbh 2025, and therefore, several innovative experiments are being undertaken. Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Soumya Agarwal stated that, in accordance with the government’s intention, the Magh Mela will be organized in a clean, accessible, safe, and grand manner.

800 hectares of land will be allocated in seven sectors for the fair. Approximately 150 million people are expected to attend this year. She stated that, drawing on past experiences, some new experiments are being undertaken. For the convenience of the devotees, efforts are being made to minimize walking, ensure proper parking, improve crowd management, streamline traffic management, and ensure a robust networking system.

Magh Mela is set to be special this year with the administration initiating extensive preparations. While swings and the Meena Bazaar at Parade Ground will remain major attractions, the Sangam, Bade Hanuman Temple and Akshayavat across the embankment will continue to draw large numbers of devotees.

Jhunsi will host saints, seers and Kalpvasis, whereas Arail is being developed as a new hub for mela sightseeing and tourism, officials said.

Divisional commissioner Saumya Agrawal, who is also the chairperson of Prayagraj Mela Authority, inspected the mela area on Saturday and issued special instructions to focus on the development of Arail.
