On Sunday, February 22, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Meerut to oversee a transformative leap in the infrastructure of Western Uttar Pradesh. A primary highlight of this visit is the formal inauguration of the entire 82-kilometer Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. By commissioning the final segments—spanning from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh—the Prime Minister will dedicate India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to the nation. This high-speed network, designed for speeds up to 180 km/h, is expected to reduce the commute between Delhi and Meerut to approximately 55 minutes, significantly enhancing regional mobility and economic integration.

In a landmark move for urban transit, the Prime Minister will also flag off the Meerut Metro. This service is uniquely integrated into the same infrastructure as the RRTS, representing a first-of-its-kind initiative in India. As the country’s fastest metro system with operational speeds of 120 km/h, it will provide efficient intra-city travel across 13 stations, covering the local stretch in just 30 minutes. Following the ceremonial flag-off at Shatabdi Nagar station, the Prime Minister is expected to experience the new system firsthand by undertaking a metro ride to Meerut South.

Beyond transportation, the visit includes the launch and dedication of several development projects with a total valuation exceeding ₹12,930 crore. These initiatives are designed to bolster the socio-economic framework of the Western UP district, focusing on sustainable urban growth and modern public utilities. The day’s events will conclude with a public address, where the Prime Minister is anticipated to discuss the vision for a “New India” driven by world-class infrastructure. These combined efforts underscore a strategic commitment to improving the ease of living, reducing road congestion, and lowering carbon emissions through sophisticated, unified transit solutions.
