Lucknow: On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya dropped a political bombshell through a tweet expressing disagreement, as there were indications that there was tension between Maurya and CM Yogi Adityanath. Maurya’s statement was long and highlighted the organization’s importance against the government’s background, showing concern about workers’ difficulties.
In his interview with his office, Maurya reiterated, “The organization is priority and the suffering of the workers is my suffering The philosophy that holds sway in this organization is that no worker is bigger than the organization; our workers are our strength. ”
This statement came after Maurya held a recent meeting with BJP President JP Nadda in New Delhi, and naturally, most, if not all, of the discussion would have been centered around future planning given the poor outcome of the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections. Interestingly, the BJP working president also had a one-on-one with Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Bhupender Chaudhary.
In this regard, rumors of an internal crisis point to dissatisfaction among some BJP components, which was attributed to CM Adityanath’s leadership style in recent poll losses of the party. Maurya held the post of the state BJP president in 2017 when the party had a landslide victory of 312 seats with the then newly sworn-in CM Yogi.
Responding to the BJP’s condition after the election, the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, also admitted overconfidence as a cause that negatively affected the party and said that there is a need to work with more energy. He stated this in a recent BJP working committee meeting: “We have to win back Uttar Pradesh for BJP. Our leaders/ workers must be more assertive on social media, whenever there is a negative propaganda it should be responded to immediately. ”
BJP could manage only 33 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, down from the 62 seats it had won previously in 2019. Some of the changes and developments in the internal dynamics of BJP leadership in the UP suggest possible changes in approach and party positions prior to some of the States’ tests ahead.
