Supreme Court will hear a petition challenging the Uttar Pradesh government order that directs the eateries along the Kanwar Yatra 2024 route to display the names of the owners. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti shall hear the matter.
Kanwar Yatra 2024 Significance
Kanwar Yatra is an early sacred pilgrimage celebrated by Lord Shiva devotees. It is observed during the month of Shravan and those who bring the holy water in Kanwars are known as Kanwariyas. This year the sacred Kanwar Yatra shall begin on July 22 and will conclude on August 6, 2024.
During this time, the devotees will take the empty pitchers on their shoulders and fill Ganga Jal. The devotees go barefoot to their destinations and can be easily recognized wearing saffron t-shirts and shorts. The government organizes caps to offer devotees water, food, and medical care.
Kanwar Yatra 2024 Routes
Kanwar Yatra includes multiple significant routes with Gaumukh, Haridwar and Gangotri serving as major beginning sites. Devotees collect the sacred water at these spots before traveling to other Shiva temples.
Some devotees visit Gaumukh to take Ganga Jal and then travel to their desired destinations. Gangotri is another sacred destination from where devotees carry water to temples such as Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar Jharkhand.
