The meteorological section of the Central Scientific Authority has given a weather warning to the Kanpur region and other parts of the state, warning of heavy wind and light precipitation, and thunderstorms till September 3. On Monday night, the city had a heavy rainfall as the lower-lying clouds were lifted up due to cyclonic winds, and this caused a heavy rainfall. Naubasta had the highest rainfall of 9.1 mm, which added to a total of about 15.9 mm collected during the 24-hour period.
The heavy rain continued in the morning of Tuesday in Kanpur, and the meteorological department cautions that the pattern is likely to continue in the next three or four days. Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, and Unnao are some of the regions that are prone to heavy rainfall with gusty winds and lightning in certain isolated places. The cause of these long-term periods of rainy season is the establishment of the low-pressure system above the Bay of Bengal and northwestern Rajasthan, causing cyclonic winds and leading to the influx of humid air in the area.
According to the meteorologists, the upsurge in this moist air has led to the elevation of these cloud formations, leading to rainfall. Humidity is directly connected to the intensity and duration of rain, and once the humidity reaches over 90 percent, the clouds will develop rapidly, and precipitation will occur.
Victims are urged to be careful of low areas that are likely to be waterlogged during thunderstorms and to travel wisely in times of thunderstorms. These extreme conditions of rain, strong winds, and lightning might lead to a local transport and power disruption. Governments have encouraged people to monitor weather warnings and take all the relevant measures to ensure their safety during this continuing season of monsoon season.
